2009 Mass Meeting and Convention Delegate Information
_______ _______OFFICIAL CALLMass Meetingof the Chesapeake City Committeeof the Republican Party of VirginiaAs Chairman of the Chesapeake City Committee of the Republican Party, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Walton P. Burkhimer, Jr., do hereby issue this call for a Mass Meeting to be held at Deep Creek High School, 2900 Margaret Booker Drive, starting at 11:00 a.m. local time on Saturday, March 28, 2009 for the following purposes:Electing up to 310 Delegates and an equal number of Alternates to the Republican Party of Virginia State Convention, to be held on May 29 and 30 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29 for the purposes of nominating a candidate for Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General. Each unit is entitled to one (1) Delegate Vote per 250 Republican votes for Governor and President at their last election, so that the Chesapeake City Committee is entitled to 310 Delegate Votes; and for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the mass meeting.All voters of the City of Chesapeake, Virginia, legal and qualified under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.Filing RequirementsCandidates for the election as a delegate or alternate delegate at said mass meeting shall file a written statement by mail or in person, to Irene Hurst, 1309 Oleander Avenue, Chesapeake, VA 23325, which must be received not later than 6:00 p.m. local time on Friday, March 20, 2009. Said filing shall be on the official form entitled “Delegate Filing Form,” which may be obtained by writing Mrs. Hurst or by downloading from the Committee’s website, www.chesapeakegop.org. A delegate must be present at the Mass Meeting to be elected.RegistrationThere will be no registration fee to participate in this mass meeting. A voluntary fee of $10.00 is requested, but not required, to help defray the costs of conducting this mass meeting. Registration to participate in the Mass Meeting may be prepared in advance and mailed to Mrs. Hurst at the address above, or may be accomplished immediately prior to the Mass Meeting itself, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Registration forms may also be obtained either be writing Mrs. Hurst at the address above or from the Committee’s website, www.chesapeakegop.org.Paid for and authorized by the Chesapeake City Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia. _______ Complete the above form and return in person or by mail to:Irene Hurst 1309 Oleander Drive Chesapeake, VA 23325To hand deliver these forms, please call 757-420-9024 for instructions about where to leave the forms.
